Where It All Began

Our story began in 1991, when Nick Knigge started the tank cleaning division of Mel’s Water Service. What began as a division of the family business would eventually grow into what is now known as Melco Tank Cleaning.

Nick brought years of experience, determination, and innovation to the operation. He developed the tank cleaning method that our crews continue to use to this day, creating the foundation for the company and the work we still perform today.

In 2004, Nick branched away from Mel’s Water Service and established Melco Tank Cleaning, continuing to build the company around the principles of hard work, quality service, safety, and taking care of the people and customers who helped make the business what it is.

Today, that family legacy continues into its next generation.

A Family Legacy

In 2026, Lance Knigge purchased Melco Tank Cleaning from his family, bringing the company into its next generation of ownership.

But Lance’s connection to Melco goes back much further than 2026.

As a young child, Lance traveled with his parents to job sites, growing up around the equipment, crews, and hard work that came with the family business. The energy industry and Melco weren’t simply a business to Lance—they were a part of his childhood and his family.

After the passing of his parents when Lance was 13, he moved in with his grandparents and remained closely connected to the family business. He continued learning the industry and watching the people around him build upon the foundation his father had created.

At just 21 years old, Lance became a crew supervisor, taking on the responsibility of leading his own crew. From an early age, he learned that leadership in this industry means more than simply getting the job done. It means taking care of your people, earning their respect, putting safety first, and setting the example you expect from your crew.

The Next Chapter

Today, Lance is committed to honoring the work of the family members who came before him while building a stronger future for Melco Tank Cleaning.

The goal isn’t simply to continue what has already been built.

It’s to make it greater than ever before.

We are committed to investing in our people, improving our operations, maintaining the highest standards of safety, and continuing to provide the dependable service our customers have trusted for decades.
